Sacramental Preparation

Helping children meet Jesus, grow as joyful disciples and prepare for the Sacraments within the worshipping life of the parish.

Programme 2026–27

A journey for the whole family

Preparation includes prayer, formation, Sunday Mass and participation in parish life. Registration therefore represents a commitment by both children and parents to take part throughout the year.

First Reconciliation

Primary 3 and above

Mondays, 6.00–7.15pm.

First Holy Communion

Primary 4 and above, after First Reconciliation.

Sundays, 9.15–10.45am, between the 8am and 11am Masses.

Confirmation

Primary 7 and above

Fridays, 6.00–7.00pm, followed by Cathedral Youth Group from 7.00–9.00pm; includes a retreat weekend.

Participation

What the programme involves

Children

Weekly sacramental sessions, an age-appropriate parish youth group, and regular Sunday Mass with their family.

Parents

Parents take part in formation sessions across the year, supporting their own faith and their role in accompanying their children.

Family commitment

Families commit to regular Sunday Mass and to active participation in the life of the parish during the preparation year.

First Holy Communion

Parent meeting: 13 September · Classes: 27 September · Retreat: 22 May · First Communion: 29 May

Confirmation

Initial family meeting arranged individually · Classes: 3 October · Retreat weekend: 23–25 April · Confirmation: 16 May

No classes during school holidays.

Before registering:families should be registered on ChurchSuite and able to commit to the children’s programme, parent formation, regular Sunday Mass and full participation through the year.
